Alabama Softball Gets Series Opening Win Over No. 8 Ranked LSU
By Chris Dodson
It was a great night to bounce back from the Missouri loss as Alabama softball got an important win over the No. 8-ranked LSU Tigers 3-0. Great pitching from Alexis Osorio was the main reason Alabama got the victory.
With the win, Alabama softball moved to 34-6 overall and 9-4 in the SEC. Osorio got the win to move her to 17-4. For the Tigers, the loss breaks a nine-game winning streak and moves them to 31-8 overall and 7-3 in the SEC.
It’s hard to draw conclusions from different types of the games during the season. The first few games in a season are very different from the later big-matchup games. Friday night was a big matchup between No. 11-ranked Alabama Softball and No. 8-ranked LSU Tigers. What clearly stood out in the Crimson Tide’s 3-0 win was Alexis Osorio.
Osorio Bounces Back
As good as we hyped up Osorio in the first half of the season, the results after the SEC season began has been somewhat lackluster. Osorio hasn’t looked as controlled since the SEC season began. Her strikeout count is down and her ERA has gone up from her pre-SEC numbers. Her lowest of low came against Missouri, where she struggled greatly in games one and three.
This game was a nice step forward. She looked more controlled and more comfortable in the circle. She had a no-hitter going through the sixth. She finished the game with 11 strikeouts and 2 total hits.

Considering how well LSU is playing this year, a shutout against the Tigers is impressive. Osorio now has 214 strikeouts for the season.
If the rotation stays the same, Osorio probably gets the call for game three on Sunday. We’ll find out then if Osorio is fully back to her high standards.
Alabama and LSU play game two tomorrow at 8:00 PM on the SEC Network. Game three will be Sunday at 2:00 PM and will be on ESPN2.
