Alabama sports has a history of National and SEC Championships. The Alabama football championships are well known but Men’s and Women’s Golf, Gymnastics and Softball have earned National and SEC Championships. Let’s check on the current national rankings for these and other Tide teams.
The 21st century has been kind to Alabama sports, with Football, Gymnastics, Men’s Golf, Women’s Golf and Softball winning a combined 11 National Championships.

Let’s take a look at the current status of the Gymnastics, Softball and Golf teams. We’ll update the current national ranking for each and preview this season’s championship opportunities.
Alabama Gymnastics
The NCAA Gymnastics National Championship will be in St. Louis, Missouri, April 14-15. The twelve competing teams are Michigan; Oklahoma; Utah; Denver; UCLA; Nebraska; Washington; Oregon State; Georgia; Florida; and LSU. Oklahoma is the defending champion. Alabama Gymnastics advanced to the NCAA Championships for the 35th consecutive time. Read more on the NCAA Regional Meet results
Since Women’s Gymnastics NCAA Championships began in 1982, only six teams have won the NCAA team title – Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, UCLA and Utah. Alabama Gymnastics has won the NCAA Gymnastics title six times.
Georgia has won a NCAA record 10 women’s gymnastics national championships. Utah has won nine team titles, like Alabama, UCLA has six, Florida three and Oklahoma two. Read the History of Alabama Gymnastics National Championships.
The 12 teams will compete in two separate sessions on Friday. The top six from Friday will advance to the Super Six Finals on Saturday. Alabama has advanced to the Super Six for nine consecutive seasons going back to 2008.
For any Alabama fans thinking Alabama Gymnastics excellence is not a big deal – think again – and take a hint from the guy below.
Alabama Women’s Golf
Last weekend, Alabama women’s golf finished second to Georgia in the Liz Murphey Classic in Athens, GA.
The Tide women maintained their No. 1 national ranking this week. Other ranked SEC teams are Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Arkansas and Texas A&M.
Three Alabama women’s golfers are ranked in the top 15 in the nation. Sophomores Cheyenne Knight and Lauren Stephenson are ranked No. 4 and No. 11, respectively. Freshman Kristen Gillman is ranked No. 14.
On April 21, Alabama Women’s golf will begin its SEC Championship title defense at the Greystone Club in Birmingham.
Alabama Softball
Alabama softball topped UAB this week Tide softball run rules UAB with Grand Slam.
After taking two of three games from LSU last weekend Alabama softball moved up to No. 9 and No. 10 in the ESPN and USA Today national polls.
However, Alabama softball remained No. 12 in the NCAA Women’s Softball RPI. The RPI rankings are the major determinant in which eight teams host a NCAA Super Regional series.

The Tide has a very important three-game series against Tennessee, this weekend in Knoxville.
Based upon the current RPI, as many as 12 SEC teams may qualify for the 64-team NCAA post-season field.
Alabama Men’s Golf
The Alabama men’s team finished third at the Clemson Invitational. Clemson, currently ranked No. 15 in the nation won the event and Georgia Tech finished second. Davis Riley had the best individual finish for Alabama in a tie for ninth place.
Alabama men’s golf remains unranked but is on an upward trend in recent tournaments.
Next up for Alabama men’s golf is the SEC Championship. The tournament begins on April 21 at Sea island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, GA. The four-day event combines stroke and match play.
Alabama Adapted Athletics – Wheelchair Tennis
Alabama won the 2017 Collegiate Wheelchair Tennis National Title. Congratulations to the team and to Shelby Baron and Maude Jacques who won the Doubles National Championship. Check out the team page at https://www.facebook.com/alabamaadapted/
