Homecoming for the Crimson Tide is always an exciting time at the Capstone. Crammed full of tradition and fun for all, homecoming offers plenty of events for students and families. Crimson Tide alum always enjoy coming back to their alma mater and reliving their glory days in Tuscaloosa. From the bonfire to the parade to the football game, there’s plenty to do this weekend in Title Town.

Paint The Town Red

This event started Monday, but will conclude at 1 pm Thursday afternoon. This year’s homecoming theme is ‘Sweet Home Capstone’, so expect to see many things related to that motif around town. Students worked with local businesses to decorate storefronts, windows, and pretty much every corner of Tuscaloosa. When you visit this weekend, be on the lookout for colorful paintings and fun designs supporting the Crimson Tide.

Similar to a ‘Step-Sing’ found at other schools, University students participate in a choreography competition every year during homecoming week. Various groups and organizations around campus create dances and shows to compete against one another for bragging rights. The event is open to the public and begins Friday night at 6pm at Coleman Coliseum.

Lawn Decoration Contest

Many organizations on campus, and specifically the sorority houses, participate in the lawn decorating contest. Students spend weeks in the basements of the houses working on these decorations before moving them outside. Once outside, they continue to work on them under the cover of a tarp. These projects are top-secret because creativity is of utmost importance when the judges come around Friday at 11:30 am. Walk around campus and make a special trip to Sorority Row to see these amazing designs. Check out  decorations from previous years here.

Pep Rally and Bonfire

Friday night at 7pm, join the Million Dollar Band, cheerleaders, Big Al, football players, and Coach Saban on the steps of Gorgas Library. Students, alumni, family and friends will gather on the Quad to participate in the annual homecoming pep rally, where the Homecoming Queen will be announced. Immediately following the conclusion on the pep rally, the bonfire will light up the night in celebration.

Step Show

Following the pep rally and bonfire,  the Crimson Tide’s eight NPHC sororities and fraternities participate in a rousing step-show. The shows are interactive and tell stories through dance, body movements, stunts, and traditional “stepping”. Doors open at 8 pm and the show begins at 8:30 pm. Tickets are available at studentorg.tix.com, and everyone is welcome to attend.

Homecoming Parade

The exciting homecoming parade begins Saturday at 1:30 pm. Organizations, businesses, local celebrities and personalities, the student government, athletic and club teams all prepare floats for the big parade. This is a fun event for the whole family. The Million Dollar Band performs, Big AL is on hand, and candy is thrown from the floats for all to enjoy. Don’t miss this fan-favorite experience. If you can’t make the parade in person, it will be steamed live on the WVUA Facebook page.

Walk of Champions

Each home game, two hours prior to kickoff, the Walk of Champions helps pump up fans and players alike. The team will arrive at the north entrance of Bryant-Denny Stadium at exactly 4 pm, and Coach Nick Saban will lead the way through a path lined with screaming fans. If you’ve never participated in a Walk of Champions, it’s definitely a can’t miss opportunity. See Nick Saban and all of the coaches up close, get a high-five from a player or two, and show the team how much you support the Crimson Tide. (Continued)

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Arkansas Razorbacks Football Game

Last but certainly not least, the entire week culminates with the kickoff of the homecoming football game. The Alabama Crimson Tide takes on the Arkansas Razorbacks in Bryant-Denny Stadium at 6 pm. However, if you’re unable to go to the game itself, catch all the action live on ESPN and cheer on our boys to victory.
