The Alabama basketball team is riding a wave of buzz the Capstone hasn’t seen in years.  With stellar freshman play and the bizarre 3-on-5 game in Brooklyn, the entire country is taking notice of the Crimson Tide.

The Alabama basketball team tips off tonight against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at Coleman Coliseum, and fans could not be more excited.  The No. 24 Crimson Tide is coming off one of the most bizarre games in NCAA history.

ICYMI: SEC Wrong with Sexton ‘Freshman of the Week’

In case you haven’t heard, the team played with only three eligible guys for the final ten minutes of the game.  Colin Sexton, Riley Norris, and Galin Smith actually kept the game close, and only lost by three points, thanks to Sexton’s 38-point performance.

Alabama is also coming off of its fourth game of the season of scoring 82 points or more.  The Tide scored just 82 points or more in four games all of last season.

More from Bama Hammer

While the buzz around the Alabama basketball team is certainly hot, taking a closer look at the previous game is necessary. It can be argued that Minnesota didn’t play 100% against the depleted Crimson Tide, and mostly just tried to run out the clock. Only time will tell if this team is actually legit.

Freshman John Petty is questionable for tonight’s game, after twisting an ankle against Minnesota.  Braxton Key is still recovering from a knee injury and not expected to play tonight.  While Key will not play in the game against La Tech, he is slated to begin non-contact practice this week. This is a promising step forward for the Tide’s top scorer on last year’s team.

Louisiana Tech is coming off a thrilling end to the Cancun Classic, where they beat Evansville in the championship game on a last second three-point shot. The “Dunkin’ Dawgs” are currently undefeated in league play. However, they have played a relatively weak schedule and face their toughest test yet against the Tide.
