Alabama football added a Top 100 linebacker as its second verbal commit in June and 4-Star, Demouy Kennedy is a big boost to the 2020 linebacker roster.

Alabama football recruiting was expected to heat up in June and it has. The latest is the No. 19 verbal commit in the 2020 class. 4-Star, Demouy Kennedy announced his commitment, stating he is 100 percent solid to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Based on the 247Sports Composite, Kennedy is the No. 2 player in the state of Alabama in the 2020 class and the No. 96 player in the nation. He is also listed as the No. 9 outside linebacker in the nation. Alabama football fans may be surprised the Crimson Tide football staff accepted a commitment from another outside linebacker. Numbers are tight in the 2020 class and the Crimson Tide already has a 5-Star, future OLB, Drew Sanders as a commit.

The Crimson Tide staff pushing to also add another 5-Star OLB, Sav’ell Smalls, rated as the No. 4 player overall in the 2020 class. OLB prospect, 4-Star, Top 50 player, Phillip Webb is another priority recruit. The Tide will lose only two outside linebackers after the 2019 season, Terrell Lewis and Anfernee Jennings.

More from Bama Hammer

Given the roster numbers and with a tight class, adding Kennedy was a surprise. Except, the now 204 pounds, Demouy Kennedy is being recruited to play inside linebacker. Kennedy is 6-feet-2 and the Alabama football staff is confident he can grow into an inside linebacker body.

Crimson Tide coaches Pete Golding and Sal Sunseri are so sold on Kennedy, his commit comes close to filling the Tide’s ILB needs. If he does not wait too long, another spot will be held for Quandarrius Robinson, who like Kennedy will need to add a good bit of weight. The Alabama Crimson Tide will continue to recruit inside linebacker, No.3 rated player in the 2020 class, 5-Star, Justin Flowe.

It is still early in the 2020 recruiting cycle and the Crimson Tide Big Board for linebackers includes lots of names of other top players.  Most Alabama football insiders and many recruiting experts believe Robinson will commit this summer. The Tide staff will try to hold a spot for Flowe as long as he shows interest.

Demouy Kennedy was once an Auburn verbal commit.

The Kennedy commitment caught LSU by surprise. Ed Orgeron and the Bengal Tigers staff thought he was close to announcing for LSU. Kennedy’s recent camp performance in Tuscaloosa changed everything for him and the Tide staff.
