Bold predictions for Alabama football in the SEC Championship

2. DeVonta Smith will emerge as the Heisman favorite

There is usually a clear Heisman race by the end of the regular season, but 2020 is special. Alabama football has two of the best candidates, and that doesn’t even include Najee Harris. While Kyle Trask was considered the frontrunner just days ago, his turnovers against LSU leave the race wide open.

While many believe that Mac Jones deserves to be the Heisman (and I would not argue with him winning it), I believe that DeVonta Smith is the best player in college football. However, his poor stats against Arkansas put his candidacy in jeopardy.

That being said, expect a monster game from DeVonta Smith. He is the best receiver in college football, and his best is yet to come. Even if Florida is trying to limit Smitty, he will be targeted in this game. When the game is on the line, Alabama football will use its best players. That includes DeVonta Smith.

Florida’s defense is decent, but they will struggle against this potent offense. While Alabama will certainly run the ball and use its other receivers, DeVonta Smith will get plenty of targets. He can score any time he sees the football, so look for him to dominate.

This race is so close that it will come down to this game. If Smitty wins the SEC Championship MVP award, he will be the frontrunner to win the Heisman Trophy.
