3 recruits Alabama must capitalize on during the fourth weekend of official visits

With Alabama sitting outside the top of the 2027 recruiting rankings, Kalen DeBoer and staff have an opportunity to generate momentum this weekend, and begin to reshape the perception of the class as they await several marquee decisions arrive this summer

The fourth weekend of the official visit season arrives at a pivotal moment for Kalen DeBoer and Alabama's 2027 recruiting efforts.

On the surface, the optics aren't exactly ideal.

Despite holding eight commitments, the Crimson Tide currently sits outside the national spotlight in the 2027 team rankings, checking in at No. 65 nationally as the summer recruiting calendar prepares to reach its most critical stretch. For a program accustomed to competing at the top of the college football food chain and stacking blue-chip talent, those numbers have naturally created anxiety among fans and outsiders alike.

Every decommitment has been magnified. Every commitment elsewhere has been viewed as another missed opportunity. From the outside looking in, questions have started to emerge about whether Alabama is losing ground in recruiting under DeBoer.

But context matters. June has become the most consequential month in modern recruiting. Official visit season isn't about hosting prospects — it's where classes are built, relationships are solidified, and perceptions can change in a matter of days. Programs that appear to be lagging one week can surge into the national conversation the next with a handful of commitments.

Alabama has been here before. The Tide doesn't need to erase weeks of skepticism in a single weekend. They simply need to win a few pivotal recruits over who have the power to reignite momentum and help begin reshaping the perception of this class as they await decisions from marquee targets such as Monshun Sales, Hayden Stepp, Osani Gayles, Antwan Jackson, Mitchell Turner, Darrius White, and others still firmly on the board.

With that in mind, these three prospects visiting Tuscaloosa this weekend may not define Alabama's 2027 class, but they could provide a spark that gets it moving in the right direction.

1.) Ayden Coleman — 3-Star LB (Mississippi State Commit)

In many ways, Ayden Coleman feels like the obvious place to start. Just days ago, Alabama watched Kenneth Simon flip his commitment to Tennessee, and the Crimson Tide suddenly found themselves searching for answers at linebacker. While no single prospect can erase the sting of losing a top target, flipping Coleman away from Mississippi State would represent a significant response from DeBoer and his staff.

It would also positively reinforce an important reality of modern recruiting: commitments aren't final until the paperwork is signed. Coleman gives Alabama an opportunity to turn an SEC recruiting loss into an SEC recruiting win of its own. Beyond those optics, the Tide would be adding another instinctive second-level defender to a position room looking for future reinforcements.

2.) Tyler Younger — 3-Star Edge

Programs can survive misses at certain positions, but edge rusher isn't one of them. At 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, Tyler Younger possesses the kind of frame and upside that Alabama covets because raw pass rushers remain among the most valuable commodities in football. Whether it's affecting the quarterback or changing games in the biggest moments, disruptive edge defenders can alter the trajectory of a defense.

Younger has already shown on tape his ability to do just that and more during his junior campaign at Greater Atlanta Christian Academy School this past fall. The rising senior now has interest from Stanford, Rutgers, UCF, and others, but will take an official visit with Alabama scheduled this weekend. For DeBoer and company, adding Younger would accomplish more than checking a box at a premium position. It would provide another building block in a class still searching for its defining momentum.

3.) Junior Tu'upo — 4-Star Safety

Alabama's recent recruiting success has been built on molding raw defensive back talent, and Junior Tu'upo fits the bill of the versatile safeties the Tide have prioritized for years. At 6-foot-3 and 192 pounds, he brings intriguing size, along with the type of athletic profile that projects well in today's pass-heavy game.

The Thompson High School product backed that potential with a strong junior campaign in 2025, recording 66 tackles, including five tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, and three interceptions. He also shares the same program as Alabama four-star quarterback commit Trent Seaborn, a connection that has the potential to add familiarity and continuity in his recruitment. Tu'upo has already taken visits with programs such as Indiana, Oregon, Texas, and Auburn, but this weekend's trip to Tuscaloosa represents a key opportunity for Alabama to strengthen its class while adding a viable contributor in the secondary for seasons to come.

All in all, these three recruits each represent exactly the type of weekend that can shift momentum during this cycle. And if DeBoer and staff can successfully convert Coleman, Younger, and Tu'upo, the narrative around this class could look very different by the end of the summer.
