Summer is nearly here, and with it comes the busiest time of the year for recruiting. Kalen DeBoer and his staff are hopeful that lightning will strike for a third straight summer in recruiting.

Alabama has gone on back-to-back massive recruiting runs during official visit season, locking down Top 5 classes in the process. DeBoer will look to do it again, with the caveat that this is widely expected to be a smaller class for the Crimson Tide than the last two. What Alabama may lack in quantity, it should make up for in quality, however.

Alabama got some much-needed momentum for its 2027 class by landing 5-star QB Elijah Haven at the end of April. That should be the boost DeBoer and his staff needed to push toward another top class this cycle.

Official visits get started in earnest with a monster Memorial Day weekend, but Alabama might get some good news even before then.

These 5 commitments could jumpstart Alabama's 2027 recruiting class

1. LB Kenneth Simon II, Brentwood, Tennessee - 4-star

DeBoer could be in line for some really good news on Monday.

4-star LB Kenneth Simon, a Tennessee legacy recruit, is slated to announce his college decision on Monday. The son of former Vols LB Kevin Simon, the 4-star from Brentwood, has been trending in Alabama's direction recently.

Barring something unforeseen, the Crimson Tide is going to get to the finish line here with DeBoer landing a massive recruiting win over Josh Heupel.

2. DL Mitchell Turner, Louisville, Mississippi - 4-star

Alabama recently picked up a prediction to land 4-star defensive lineman Mitchell Turner, too. The Louisville, MS native is ranked as the No. 57 overall recruit in the 2027 class and the top defensive lineman in his state.

Similar to the recruitment of Nolan Wilson a year ago, the Crimson Tide jumped on Turner early and was the first Power Four program to offer him. The early faith shown in him by DeBoer and company could be what ultimately wins the day in his recruitment.

He has visits set up to Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Texas, but Alabama will host him on May 29th and look to seal the deal.

3. RB Nigel Newkirk, Gainesville, Georgia - 4-star

Speaking of players predicted to end up in Alabama's class, 4-star RB Nigel Newkirk is also slated for his official visit to Tuscaloosa on May 29th.

Newkirk has been a fast-rising prospect in this cycle, and his relationship with high school teammates Xavier Griffin and Jamarion Matthews, both of whom signed with Alabama in the 2026 class, has been a huge leg up for the Crimson Tide in his recruitment.

He has other visits set up to LSU, Ohio State, and Michigan, but like Turner, Alabama will try to close the deal with him at the end of the month and knock those other visits off his calendar.

4. CB Darrius White, Fairburn, Georgia - 3-star

Georgia has been a recruiting hotbed for Alabama in the last couple of years. That could continue to prove fruitful in this cycle.

Alabama has a loaded DB room at the moment, but they are still looking to add talent. After seeing 3-star CB Nash Johnson recently decommit, DeBoer and DB coach Maurice Linguist could look to replace him with White.

White has visits set up with Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and Cincinnati as well, but it appears the Crimson Tide is out in front if they push for his commitment.

5. CB Hayden Stepp, Las Vegas, Nevada - 5-star

It appears that 5-star CB John Meredith III is trending away from Alabama and is likely going to remain in state with either Texas or Texas A&M. Even still, it's hard to see the Crimson Tide, which has recruited defensive backs better than anyone else in the last two cycles, striking out with its most coveted prospects.

Linguist, DC Kane Wommack, and DeBoer can pitch development with the best of them, and they've proven to be unafraid to put young players on the field early if they show they are worthy of the playing time.

Stepp is an elite prospect and fits the bill of the bigger corners that this staff covets, as he's just shy of 6-foot-4.

Alabama will have to hold off heavy hitters like Oregon and Georgia, along with Cal, to land Stepp, but they'll get the first crack at the Las Vegas native with his official visit set for May 29th.
