You never want to place all your eggs in one basket. Even if that basket is as awe-inspiring and eye-catching as 5-star WR Monshun Sales.
The sting of potentially missing out on Sales was already lessened by the commitment of 4-star WR Osani Gayles over the weekend. But it's clear that Kalen DeBoer and the Tide's coaching staff are looking to add multiple receivers in this class.
It's one of the shallowest roster spots on the roster right now. With Noah Rogers hurt, Alabama is currently down to five receivers they are confident can play at this level. The other scholarship guys were purely upside swings who you hope don't have to take a snap.
It's clear why the position group is a priority in this class, especially with Ryan Coleman-Williams almost certainly entering the NFL Draft after the season and the Transfer Portal potentially looming for another receiver.
Along with Gayles, Alabama sits in a good spot for 3-star Kyren Caldwell, but they still want a blue-chip piece as well. Sales is the obvious priority, but the Crimson Tide is facing stiff competition for his services.
They want to make sure they have options.
That's why they are keeping a Louisville commitment warm.
Alabama has been in contact with 4-star Louisville WR commit Ja'Hyde Brown
Brown is a name that could be familiar to some Alabama fans, as the Crimson Tide have shown interest in the past before fading into the background of his recruitment. That interest appears to be picking up on the heels of some impressive camp performances this summer for the Louisville native:

Brown committed to his hometown team back in March, but it's clear, based on the heavy hitters who have been reaching out to him, that his recruitment is far from over, with more than five months between now and the early signing period.
Brown took a visit to Alabama back in the fall when he was still a 3-star recruit and before his recruitment really started to blow up.
Brown was a highly productive junior last season, producing 1566 yards and 24 touchdowns. He's a consensus 4-star recruit and ranked as the No. 219 overall player in the 247 composite. He's not on the level of Sales, not many are, but Brown is a really good player in his own right who would be a really impressive consolation prize if the Tide can't reel in the biggest fish.
