Alabama Crimson Tide news and notes:
5-star PF Zion Green commits to Alabama basketball
It's difficult to appreciate the good times when you're in them, but take a second to appreciate this era of Alabama basketball as much as you can. Nate Oats has built something special in Tuscaloosa, something long-time fans never thought they'd see.
The unprecedented success on the court has continued to lead to unprecedented recruiting success. On Saturday, Oats and assistant Preston Murphy added a second composite 5-star to their 2027 recruiting class.
5-star PF Zion Green announced his commitment to Alabama. He joins 5-star combo guard Chase Lumpkin, giving the Crimson Tide a Top 10 class in the 2027 cycle.
Green is an athletic forward with a good-looking jump shot that projects as a stretch-four in Oats' system.
Alabama opens as a small road underdog against LSU
Alabama opened up as a 3.5-point road underdog for this weekend's season-defining matchup at LSU. Sharp bettors evidently liked that line a lot and jumped all over it. As of Monday morning, the spread has already moved more in LSU's favor, with the Tigers currently a 5.5-point favorite on FanDuel.
It's an uphill battle for Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide against an LSU team with significant momentum.
Alabama's CFP hopes will be on the line in Baton Rouge. A loss would mean that the Tide's playoff hopes would hinge on chaos everywhere around the country to have a chance at getting in. A win would be a gigantic leap toward the 12-team field with a manageable schedule the rest of November.
Alabama moves up one spot to No. 9 in the AP Poll
Despite being off this week, Alabama moved up one spot to No. 9 in this week's AP Poll. Ohio State's loss to USC dropped the Buckeyes out of the Top 10 and allowed the Crimson Tide to move up. That poll, of course, is about to be irrelevant when the College Football Playoff committee releases its first poll of the season Tuesday night.
Even better than Alabama moving up, however, is that South Carolina has moved into the AP Poll at No. 23 following three consecutive victories. The Gamecocks give the Tide a second ranked win, joining Kentucky, and boost Alabama's overall resume.
Florida State firing Mike Norvell could have a big impact on Alabama's recruiting class
Florida State finally fired Mike Norvell on Sunday after yet another deflating defeat dropped the Seminoles to 3-5 overall and 10-22 over their last 32 games.
The immediate impact for Alabama could be on the Tide's 2027 recruiting class. One of Alabama's top flip targets - 4-star Jernard Albright - is a current FSU commitment. Albright took two recent trips to Tuscaloosa, including an official visit for the Texas A&M game.
Norvell's departure should increase the chances of an Albright flip.
Alabama soccer drops regular-season finale to Mississippi State, earns 3-seed in SEC Tournament
Alabama soccer had a disappointing end to the regular season, falling 1-0 to Mississippi State on the road. A Chira Tappe header in the 25th minute gave the Bulldogs the lead and the Crimson Tide could never find the equalizer.
Alabama finishes the regular season at 14-4 overall and 7-3 in SEC play.
Alabama will be the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament, earning a first-round bye. The Crimson Tide will face either Auburn or LSU next Tuesday, November 10th.
