Alabama Crimson Tide news and notes from the weekend.
Alabama lands a commitment from 2028 QB Charles Scott Jr.
Less than a week after landing a commitment from 5-star Elijah Haven, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class, Kalen DeBoer and Alabama reeled in another signal-caller.
2028's Charles Scott Jr., a 6-foot-5, 235-pound QB from Virginia, announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Friday. Scott is currently rated as a 3-star recruit, but has an impressive list of offers already, which included Georgia and Florida State.
As a sophomore, Scott threw for over 3500 yards with 41 touchdowns and four interceptions. He's likely to continue rising up the ranks as time progresses.
If that wasn't enough, Alabama also made the trimmed-down list of six for 4-star QB Kingston Preyear, one of the top quarterbacks in the 2028 class.
Alabama baseball gets much-needed series sweep over Vanderbilt
After losing three consecutive SEC series and holding just a 2-7 record over the last nine league games, Rob Vaughn and Alabama baseball got a much-needed series sweep at home against Vanderbilt.
In the opener, a clutch 3-run homer by freshman Eric Hines tied the game at four in the sixth inning. John Lemm walked it off with a solo shot to center to give Alabama the 5-4 win.
In game two, Hines and Lemm homered again to give Alabama an early 3-0 lead and that was more than enough for Zane Adams. Adams threw six shutout innings, allowing eight hits and one walk while striking out six. Austin Crowther shut the door with three shutout innings to follow with the Crimson Tide earning a 5-0 win to take the series.
In the final game of the series, Alabama put a five-spot on the board in the 1st inning, highlighted by a 3-run bomb by Jason Torres. RBI doubles by Bryce Fowler and Brennan Holt, followed by a solo shot by Holt, helped the Crimson Tide earn an 8-5 win and the series sweep.
Alabama now sits at 13-11 in SEC play with two series left at South Carolina and at home against Ole Miss. Hosting a Regional is very much on the table again after this weekend.
Alabama softball finishes regular season with sweep of South Carolina
Patrick Murphy and Alabama softball did what they could do this weekend to try to earn at least a share of the SEC regular season title. Unfortunately, Oklahoma didn't cooperate and the Crimson Tide came up just short of that goal, finishing game behind the Sooners.
But the Crimson Tide still earned a weekend sweep to head into the SEC Tournament as the No. 2 seed.
Alabama took game one 3-2 thanks to a 2-run homer by Brooke Wells and an RBI walk by Marlie Giles.
Game two was a pitcher's duel with the Tide scoring just a single run on an RBI double by Ana Roman. Fortunately, that's all Vic Moten needed. She threw six shutout innings with Jocelyn Briski shutting the door in the 7th for the 1-0 win.
In the series finale, Alabama overcame an early 2-0 deficit. RBI walks by Giles and Jena Young were sandwiched around an RBI single by Roman to give the Crimson Tide a 3-2 lead. Alabama got some insurance with an RBI knock by Alexis Pupilo in the 4th as Briski held it down on the mound for the Tide's 4-3 win.
