Kalen DeBoer provides updates on 4 injured Alabama players ahead of Mississippi State
Alabama is going to be without a few key players this weekend against Mississippi State.
Edge defenders Justin Hill and Desmond Umeozulu, who missed last week's game against South Carolina, will also miss this weekend's game in Starkville. DeBoer noted that Hill will likely get back on the field quicker than Umeozulu, which is the opposite of what many assumed when the injuries were first announced.
Alabama also has two offensive linemen who were banged up against the Gamecocks. Junior LG Will Sanders should be good to go this weekend, according to DeBoer. The news wasn't as positive for senior RT Jayvin James, who left the Carolina game in the fourth quarter and was seen walking to the locker room with a boot on his foot.
DeBoer called James "very questionable" for Saturday's game. In his place, JUCO transfer Tyrell Miller would be in line to earn his first start for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama loses one 2028 commitment, closes in on a critical 2027 recruiting win
4-star 2028 offensive lineman Anthony Blalock Jr. announced his decommitment from Alabama on Tuesday. That news didn't come as a surprise after Blalock hasn't been back in Tuscaloosa since committing to the Tide back in June. He also recently announced visit plans for the fall that did not include Alabama.
The news was a bit better this week with Alabama's standing for another top 2028 prospect. 4-star ATH Kamieon Compton-Nero announced a trimmed-down list of five schools, which included the Tide. Compton-Nero was fresh off a visit to Tuscaloosa over the weekend. He's the No. 1-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma.
In the 2027 class, Alabama appears to be closing in on landing former UConn commit Preston Glasco. The 3-star CB has been a high priority for Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina this fall. He just took his official visit to Alabama this past weekend, his second trip to the Capstone already this fall. He set up another visit, and will be back in Tuscaloosa for the Georgia game next weekend.
Georgia flipped Cal commit Alius Mayo, a JUCO CB who Alabama was once in pursuit of, on Tuesday, which further signals that Alabama is well out in front for Glasco.
Alabama men's golf wins the Ben Hogan College Invitational
No. 11 Alabama men's golf scored a major win at the Ben Hogan College Invitational on Tuesday. Led by Top 10 individual finishes from Nick Gross, William Jennings, and Bailey Sutter, Alabama won the tournament with a score of even par. That was five shots ahead of Auburn, which came in second.
This is an impressive win for Jay Seawell and his team, with the field consisting of four Top 5 ranked teams: Auburn (No. 1), Oklahoma State (No. 2), Arizona State (No. 3), and Texas Tech (No. 5).
