Alabama Crimson Tide news and notes from the weekend that was:

Alabama women's basketball earns critical road win over Florida

Kristy Curry's team had to find a way to stop the bleeding as they headed to Gainesville on Sunday amid a three-game losing streak. With the final two regular-season games following against Top 5 opponents in Vanderbilt and Texas, Alabama needed this win in the worst way.

They got it thanks to a virtuoso performance from Jessica Timmons, who scored a career-high 34 points. She put Alabama on her back and led the team to a 76-71 road win over Florida.

Ta'Mia Scott had 21 points of her own, and while Karly Weathers only scored four, she grabbed six rebounds and dished out nine assists.

The win moves Alabama to 21-7 overall and 7-7 in the SEC with a road game against Vanderbilt on Thursday and then Texas coming to Tuscaloosa to close the regular season on Thursday.

Alabama softball survives Dartmouth to cap another weekend sweep

For the first time this season, Alabama softball looked human on Sunday. After three dominant wins in Tallahassee, including two over Top 10-ranked Florida State by a combined score of 13-1, Sunday's finale of the Dugout Club Classic felt like an afterthought.

But Patrick Murphy and his team quickly found themselves in a surprising dogfight. Dartmouth scored two runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead as Alabama's bats were quiet early. But the Crimson Tide stared down the first real adversity of the season and didn't blink, producing a three-run third inning to take the lead.

Larissa Preuitt stole third and then scored on a throwing error to get Alabama on the board. Marlie Giles and Alexis Pupilo followed with back-to-back RBI hits to give the Tide a 3-2 lead.

Murphy turned to freshman sensation Vic Moten to shut the door, and she threw 2.2 scoreless innings, highlighted by four strikeouts. Moten is now 7-0 on the season with a 0.42 ERA.

Alabama is now 13-0 and will return to the field on Tuesday to face UAB in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama baseball sweeps doubleheader against Rhode Island

After exploding at the plate for 19 runs in Friday's win over Rhode Island, Alabama followed that up on Saturday by sweeping a doubleheader against Rhode Island to earn the weekend sweep to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Alabama earned an 8-5 win in the first game. Zane Adams got the start and threw six strong innings, giving up only two runs and leaving with a four-run advantage. Some struggles out of the bullpen allowed the Rams to trim the lead to just one, but Evan Steckmesser shut the door with 2.1 perfect innings in relief.

A homer by John Lemm, who went 3-for-4 on the day, and an RBI knock by Brady Neal gave Alabama some nice late-inning insurance.

Game two wasn't nearly as competitive as Alabama routed Rhode Island 11-1 to cap the weekend. Star shortstop Justin Lebron cranked a solo homerun in the first inning, his fifth of the season, to get the party started.

Alabama led 6-0 after five innings, and then piled it on with five more runs in the 8th. The offense gave freshman Myles Upchurch more support than he needed. In his second start for the Crimson Tide, he threw five innings, allowing three hits, one walk, and striking out seven.

Alabama basketball wins sixth straight game, 90-83 over LSU

In an obvious spot for a hangover, Alabama basketball did what it needed to do to earn a 90-83 road win over LSU on Saturday in Baton Rouge. With Labaron Philon clearly hampered, Nate Oats put the game in the hands of Aden Holloway, and while the junior struggled to find his three-point range, his effort on both ends led the way. Holloway scored 17 points and dished out four assists, while Oats credited him with his best defensive game of the season.

Sophomore center Aiden Sherrell dominated the beginning of the second half, following up a career-best performance - and career-high in minutes - during Alabama's double-overtime win over Arkansas on Wednesday with a second straight double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. He also blocked four shots.

This was the Crimson Tide's sixth straight win, moving them to 20-7 overall and 10-4 in SEC play. Alabama returns to the court on Wednesday to face Mississippi State in Coleman Coliseum.
