Alabama finally got some good recruiting news for the 2027 class over the weekend when 3-star DL AJ Pauley announced his commitment on Saturday following the A-Day scrimmage. But Kalen DeBoer has a much bigger fish to land, and it appears he might have him on the hook. He just has to finish reeling him into the boat.
5-star QB Elijah Haven, the nation's No. 1 QB in the 247 composite for 2027, was also in Tuscaloosa for A-Day. Immediately following the scrimmage, Haven announced that his commitment date was officially locked in for April 25th.
After months of back-and-forth on setting a date that was always a moving target, Haven appears to have made up his mind and is ready to make an announcement. It's not a coincidence that the decision comes after his latest trip to Tuscaloosa.

Alabama is in the driver's seat for 5-star QB Elijah Haven with commitment coming soon
Alabama has been viewed as the favorite for Haven for quite some time, despite the presence of 4-star in-state quarterback Trent Seaborn in the Crimson Tide's 2027 class. Seaborn has known about Alabama's pursuit of Haven, and seems comfortable potentially being the Mac Jones to Haven's Tua Tagovailoa.
One other interesting tidbit about Haven locking in his commitment date is that the Baton Rouge native trimmed his list down to three. Florida was originally among the final four for the 5-star signal-caller, and was actually viewed as the favorite once upon a time, but the Gators called off their pursuit and pivoted to 4-star Davin Davidson.
Haven would be a huge win on the recruiting trail for Kalen DeBoer, and would mark the third straight cycle the Crimson Tide landed a 5-star QB. Keelon Russell, who appears to be the favorite to win Alabama's starting QB job in the fall, and Jett Thomalla signed with the Crimson Tide in back-to-back cycles.
Haven recently took trips to both Auburn and Georgia before setting his commitment date, too. The Tigers probably had too much ground to make up with a new coaching staff. The Bulldogs are likely the biggest competition for Alabama, but they currently hold a commitment from the No. 1 player in the 2028 class, QB Jayden Wade, who has been rumored to be pursuing a reclassification into the 2027 class to get to college a year earlier.
If those rumors are true, it would be unlikely that Georgia is a real player in the Haven sweepstakes.
With 12 days to go before Haven announces his commitment, it would be a major upset if he lands anywhere other than Tuscaloosa.
