Alabama's pursuit of elite wide receiver talent in the 2027 recruiting cycle continues to evolve, and one of the Crimson Tide's contingency options just received a significant boost.

Alabama target, 4-Star Wide Receiver Ja'Hyde Brown receives major bump in 2027 recruiting ranks

Four-star wide receiver Ja'Hyde Brown made a major jump on Rivals' updated 300 rankings, climbing from the No.252 overall prospect to No.66. The Christian Academy of Louisville (KY.) standout's rapid rise has only increased his national value, and Alabama remains one of the program's showing strong interest as Kalen DeBoer and Crimson Tide wide receivers coach Derrick Nix continue evaluating their options at the wide receiver position.

While Alabama remains heavily invested in the recruitment of five-star wideout Monshun Sales, whose pending commitment is expected Friday, July 17, Brown has emerged as a potential alternative if the Tide are unable to secure the elite pass-catcher away from Indiana, LSU, Texas, and Ohio State. Brown is currently committed to Louisville, but his ability to create explosive plays as a dynamic weapon has made him an intriguing option for Alabama.

If the Crimson Tide miss on Sales and decide to pursue a flip, Brown would join fellow four-star 2027 Alabama commit Osani Gayles, who also saw a major rankings rise from No.111 to No.73.

All in all, with the potential subtraction of Ryan Coleman-Williams to the NFL come next spring, Alabama's 2027 cycle is about more than adding another name to the class—it's about finding the next wave of playmakers capable of changing games in the SEC. Whether the Tide land Sales or decide to turn its attention to Brown, DeBoer and his staff are positioning themselves with multiple paths to continue building a receiver room filled with high-upside talent and explosiveness for 2027 and beyond.
