With the college football roster expansion from 85 to 105, you're going to start seeing teams take more fliers on players who don't cost anything outside of a scholarship. That's particularly going to be the case for in-state players who otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity.
After landing an under-the-radar WR in MJ Mathis from Georgia a week ago, Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide found another in their own backyard. Aubrey Walker, a speedy receiver from Moody, committed to Alabama on Thursday after receiving an offer and will help bolster the depth in the Tide's WR room.

Walker becomes the 9th scholarship WR for Alabama this season. The Crimson Tide returned scholarship receivers Ryan Williams, Lotzeir Brooks, Rico Scott, and Derek Meadows from the 2025 team. They also awarded a scholarship to former walk-on MJ Chirgwin, who had initially entered the Transfer Portal.
Alabama added NC State transfer Noah Rogers as its lone portal addition to the room so far. Mathis is the third high school receiver added, joining the aforementioned Mathis and 4-star in-state star Cederian Morgan.
DeBoer and GM Courtney Morgan are likely still on the lookout for at least one more WR, one who could potentially make an impact on next season's team. Yale's Nico Brown took a visit this past weekend, but he has a lot of options and might find more potential playing time outside of Tuscaloosa.
For now, Williams and Brooks are the only locks to start. The No. 3 WR spot will be a tight competition between Scott, Rogers, and Morgan. Rogers has the edge in experience, but Scott knows the system better. Morgan is likely the most talented of the trio.
