One of Alabama's top offensive targets in the 2026 class is TE Mack Sutter, a 4-star, Top 100 prospect out of Dunlap, Illinois. Sutter is scheduled to make his commitment on Thursday, and all signs are pointing toward the Crimson Tide pulling him away from home-state Illinois:

Sutter has a final four of Alabama, Illinois, Ohio State, and Ole Miss. He took official visits to all four schools this summer, but the Crimson Tide got the coveted final visit this past weekend.

Sutter is ranked as the No. 6 TE and the No. 80 overall player according to the 247 composite.

If Sutter chooses Alabama over home-state Illinois on Thursday, it would be a 180 for the Crimson Tide with how the recruitment of Roman Voss went. Voss couldn't resist the allure of staying at home, committing on Monday to Minnesota over the Crimson Tide.

Sutter was the priority, but Kalen DeBoer and company would have gladly taken both prospects. Landing Sutter became more pivotal following Voss' decision.

Mack Sutter would join a talented young TE room at Alabama

Alabama signed two 4-star TEs in the 2025 class: Kaleb Edwards and Marshall Pritchett. TE was a key point of emphasis for the staff in the spring Transfer Portal window, with Alabama signing not one, but two tight ends out of the portal in Troy's Brody Dalton and West Virginia's Jack Sammarco.

Dalton is entering his final season of college eligibility, as is Washington transfer Josh Cuevas, meaning Alabama could very well have two spots they are looking to fill at the tight end position this offseason.

Sutter is an impressive athlete, similar to Edwards in last year's class. A difference-maker at TE is vital in DeBoer and OC Ryan Grubb's offensive system, and Alabama seems to be on the verge of landing another.

Sutter is a two-way athlete in high school, playing defense as well. As a junior at Dunlap, the blue-chip prospect caught 35 passes for 505 yards and scored seven touchdowns.

At 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, Sutter has the size to make a quick jump to playing time at the collegiate level early on.

It has been a few years since Alabama has had a real difference-maker in the TE room. The Tide hasn't had a TE eclipse 500 receiving yards in a single season since Irv Smith Jr. went over 700 in 2018.

The talent is improving, and with Sutter joining last year's impressive crop, that streak seems likely to end soon.
