Recapping another strong recruiting weekend from Alabama headlined by two commitments
The theme of the summer has been massive recruiting weekends for the Alabama Football team with commitments rolling in near after. Almost immediately, Kalen DeBoer landed a commitment from a highly touted punter and the rest of the weekend continued the trend of strong impressions made on top players. The weekend to watch is next weekend but, with loads of talent on campus, the Tide are trending in the right direction as the summer continues.
Can Kalen DeBoer flip a trio of top commits?
This summer, Kalen DeBoer has already landed a massive flip when he flipped Keelon Russell from SMU. Now, Kalen DeBoer has his eye on flipping three other elite recruits with Akylin Dear, Harry Dalton III, and Marshall Pritchett.
Akylin Dear is the most high-profile of the three committed visitors as On3 ranks him as the 2nd best running back in the class and the 30th-ranked recruit in the class. In-state Ole Miss landed the commitment in March but, the Tide were able to land the visit this weekend. The Tide may have picked up some momentum this weekend as Daniel Hill and Ryan Williams continued to provide massive help to Robert Gillespie during the visit.
Getting Harry Dalton III on campus this weekend was a bit of a surprise as he committed to USC in April over Alabama among other schools. On3 ranks Dalton as the Nation's 20th best running back and the 243rd ranked player in the class. Alabama has seemingly prioritized other running backs like Akylin Dear over Dalton but, keeping the connections in place doesn't hurt.
The final committed player on campus this weekend was North Carolina tight end commit Marshall Pritchett. The three-star recruit is ranked as the 26th-best tight end in the class and the 469th-ranked player in the class. The Tide certainly made a strong impression on Pritchett while they also feel good about where they stand with four-star tight end Nick Townsend.
Kalen DeBoer and Alabama land a pair of commitments
The Alabama Football did land a commitment early on in the weekend as punter Alex Asparuhov committed to the Crimson Tide. Kohl's kicking has Asparuhov ranked as the nation's third-ranked punter in America. The move won't send shockwaves like some of this summer's commitments, but it gives Kalen DeBoer a succession plan once James Burnip leaves town.
Late on Sunday, the Alabama Football team also landed a commitment from three-star defensive tackle London Simmons. On3 ranks the defensive tackle as the 60th ranked defensive tackle in America and the 15th best player in Mississippi. While Simmons is only ranked as a three-star defensive tackle, the staff expressed their excitement online showing how highly they value Simmons.
Tide makes a strong impression on Justin Hill
The Alabama Football team is in a battle with the Ohio State Buckeyes to land Ohio native Justin Hill. The four-star edge rusher is ranked by On3 as the Nation's 7th-ranked edge rusher and the 52nd-best player in the class. The Tide seemingly made an all-in push to land the Ohio native as Jaylen Mbakwe and Ryan Williams continue to be vital pieces in Alabama's recruiting efforts.
Alabama Football: Who's on Commitment Watch?
Leaving this recruiting weekend, Alabama appears to be at or near the top for several recruits. Coming into the weekend, Bama had a strong chance to close out four-star offensive tackle Jackson Lloyd and they remain in a great spot. Lloyd is one of the top priorities in this class as the first player Kalen DeBoer offered upon taking the job. The Tide also still appears to be the favorite in top-100 linebacker Dawson Merritt's recruitment and, with his visits to Nebraska and Alabama in the books, a commitment could happen soon.
