Bama Sports: BamaHammer’s Friday Faves
Friday Faves: Crimson Tide Athletics never disappoints, and this week was no different. Here are 5 of the best moments in Bama sports.
ICYMI:NCAA Bans Shirtless Harbaugh’s Satellite Camps Immediately
As Crimson Tide fans, we’ve grown accustomed to a certain degree of success in our athletic programs. This week was another great week for Bama sports with major headlines in softball, baseball, the PGA, and hey – even academics. Not bad for a week in April when generally not a THING is really going on in Tuscaloosa because everyone is looking ahead to next week’s spring game. Before we get to A-Day, let’s take a look at BamaHammer.com’s Top 5 Moments in Bama Sports from April 3rd – 8th, 2016.
5. Baseball Wins Double-Header Against Alcorn State

Before you think, “A couple of wins over Alcorn State? Who cares?”, keep in mind that Bama baseball is notorious for mid-week slumps. With back to back wins over the Braves, maybe the Tide’s Curse of Being Crappy is finally broken. Watch our boys in a 3 game series against Kentucky in Lexington this weekend on the SEC Network.
4. Justin Thomas Scores Hole-In-One at Augusta
Former University of Alabama men’s golf team member Justin Thomas is not only playing in the first major of the season’s PGA tour – he also ACED the 4th hole during Wednesday’s Par 3 contest. As cool as that is, immediately after Thomas’ hole-in-one, Rickie Fowler nailed one too. This would be ranked higher because it’s pretty spectacular to watch, but Thomas’ play the last 2 days has been sub-par. Pun intended. Fortunately, he (barely) made the cut, so we can still see him in the Master’s this weekend.
3. Prime Tide Sports Posts Championship Season “Best of” Videos
YouTube channel Prime Tide Sports released a series of “Best Of” videos highlighting the Crimson Tide’s epic 2015 Championship season. With titles like “All Derrick Henry TDs in 2015” and
“All Alabama Sacks in 2015”, these clips will simultaneously have us all salivating over next week’s A-Day game, and plunging further into our “It’s still not football season yet” slump. Don’t worry, Tide faithful. Only 148 days, 1 hour and 34 minutes till kickoff against USC in Bama’s new home away from home in Arlington, TX.
2. UA Student-Athletes Recognized For Performance In Classroom
Let’s face it – as much as we love sports, the real reason these athletes are attending college is to
party and have a good time
earn a degree and ready themselves for a career in the real world. Alabama softball player Haylie McCleney and Alabama basketball’s Retin Obasohan were honored as finalists for the McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship. Both players were recognized for their performances in both athletics and academics. Congrats, Retin and Haylie, and good luck!
1. Bama Softball Hits It Out of the Park with 1000th Program Win
To quote BamaHammer’s Chris Hale: “In their 20 year run as a program, the Crimson Tide can now say they have 1000 wins. That’s not a bad average. Fifty wins every year? Anyone would take that every day of the week and twice on Sunday.” Bama softball has proven to be one of the country’s top programs, with 10 WCWS appearances since 2000, including winning the National Championship in 2012. 1000 wins is a monumental accomplishment for any program, but especially Alabama’s because…well…Roll Tide.
