The Alabama Crimson Tide football program self-reported five violations last year, including a completely ridiculous one, and the SEC banded together on Twitter July 4th.

ICYMI: Alabama Football: Five Biggest Threats in 2016

Let’s start with the weirdest news of the last few days. The Alabama Athletics Department self-reported 19 violations that occurred during the 2015-2016 school year. Football was responsible for five of those violations, including one that is both hilarious and frustrating.

The Crimson Tide violated the rule against displaying the National Championship trophy in an area that could be seen by recruits.

Apparently that’s an NCAA no-no.

There are several problems with this rule. For starters, where are the trophies supposed to go?? Should they be hidden away in a dark room where no one can see them? And what caves are these recruits living in that they aren’t well aware of the NATIONAL championships Bama has won?

Come on, NCAA. At Alabama, championships are a part of the package. In fact, they are a large reason why many players choose to play of the Crimson Tide in the first place.  It is downright stupid to think that displaying or not displaying a trophy in a particular location will encourage or discourage a recruit from choosing Bama.

Whether you’ve seen the crystal footballs and golden NC tophies in person or you’ve just, you know, watched television ever or picked up a copy of Sports Illustrated at any point in your life, you know that the Crimson Tide are about many things – and one of them is winning.

Trophy displayed or not, people come to Bama to win. Most programs don’t consistently rank in the top 25, let alone the top five in the country. But, in the words of Alabama Crimson Tide defensive end Jonathan Allen: “Alabama does.”

And finally, if you haven’t seen the SEC football teams tweeting the Pledge of Allegiance yesterday, you need to check it out. Because it is awesome.

We spend much of the year hating each other’s guts. Maybe that’s too strong of a phrase…but then again, maybe not. However, the SEC comes together a few times a year to prove that we are, in fact, college football’s toughest and most respected conference. We’ve all chanted “S-E-C!” after a win at a large non-conference game, especially after certain analysts have tried to say that the Southeastern Conference wasn’t the best in college football. We also know that coming together as a conference only makes us tougher (and increases everyone’s strength-of-schedule, which is always a plus).

Yesterday, July 4th, 2016, the SEC Network kicked off one of the coolest things that’s ever been done on social media with this simple post:

What happened next was fantastic. Click this link to see rest. You won’t regret it.
